Welcome to our Great Wisconsin Birdathon fundraising page! Circumstances are different this year but team still has the same goals in mind: find as many birds as possible and raise as much money for bird conservation in Wisconsin as possible. We want to help ensure that birds who spend all or part of the year in Wisconsin have all the resources they need to survive and thrive. The fundraising is extra important this year, because many typical events that raise money for conservation such as filed trips cannot happen due to COVID-19. We're also looking at the liklihood of reduced federal and state grants that would normally go toward conservation.

Due to COVID-19 and to adhere to the stay at home order and social distancing guidance, we unforuntaely cannot shoot for 200 species and run our traditional Big Day together from northern Door County to Horicon Marsh. So, we are going to get a little creative! The most frustrating thing about a big day is you can only be in one spot at once. Well, the silver lining this year is that we can be in several spots at once. That's because Mark is going to bird near his home in Door County, Tom is going to bird between his home in Grren Bay down to Manitowoc, and Quentin and Aaron will bird near their homes in southern Wisconsin, reaching north to the Horicon area. We'll be doing this on the same day and we'll add our totals up to a combined total for the birdathon. We're looking forward to answering some of the "what-if" questions in our head from previous years by doing things this way.

We'll be running our big day in our normal time window of mid-late May, picking a date dependent on weather and the status of migration.

Please consider supporting us with a pledge per species or donation. No amount is too small--even small contributions add up! This year the Great Wisconsin Birdathon aims to raise $100,000 for bird conservation in Wisconsin. Your contribution supports the priority projects of the Bird Protection Fund.

  • Conservation of endangered Kirtland's Warblers, Whooping Cranes, and Piping Plovers
  • Research, education, and habitat protection in Central and South America
  • Monitoring of waterbirds
  • Community engagement and habitat protection through Bird City Wisconsin
  • The Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas II

The Great Wisconsin Birdathon has raised over $500,000 for Wisconsin's birds since 2012. We have done so much, but there is still so much more to do. Thank you for joining us in making a sustainable future for Wisconsin's birds!
