Hey Friends, it's that time of year again, when we raise money for bird and wildlife habitat preservation in Wisconsin. Friday May 15th, the Rudderless Turnstones will be doing a BIG DAY to raise money for the Bird Protection Fund. A "big day" in birding is when you try to find as many bird species species as possible in one 24-hour period. Our goal is to find 150 species within Waukesha County. We know that's a big number, but it's totally doable. We know the lay of the land, and if the birds help us out a bit, we can make it happen.
You might be wondering why we're raising money for the environment at this point in time. We have always wanted to do a BIG DAY in Waukesha County to see how it would go. There are tons of birds around, and a BIG DAY is a great opportunity to test our skills and sanity to see how many we can find. So with our calendars having been cleared, now is the perfect time. But beyond having fun, we can do a bit of good for the birds and wildlife while we're at it.
We're fully aware that not everyone has money to throw around right now. But coming out of this quarantine, a lot of focus will be on helping people who have had tough times. And we support taking every possible chance to help folks get back on their feet. At the same time, many of the issues that we face regarding the environment will remain, and may take a back seat. So we would like to do all we can to continue preserving habitat for the creatures with whom we co-inhabit the earth, AND to preserve a livable place for you and me. So much of our mental and emotional health is derived from spending time in nature, so we consider this birdathon an investment in our self-care as well.
This is why we are asking that if you have the means, help in our quest to support birds, wildlife, habitat, and all the neat nature things we hold dear in this world. Please consider supporting us with a pledge or donation for this walkathon-style fundraiser. No amount is too small--even small contributions add up! This year the Great Wisconsin Birdathon aims to raise $90,000 for bird conservation and research in Wisconsin. Your contribution supports the priority projects of the Bird Protection Fund, including:
The Great Wisconsin Birdathon has raised over $400,000 for Wisconsin's birds since 2012! We have done so much, but there is still so much more to do. Thank you for joining us in making a sustainable future for Wisconsin's birds!
Donating because I like your team name and logo, not to mention the team members, AND your Facebook posts about your day.
We love watching the Ruddy Turnstones on Sanibel. Good luck turning up all kinds of interesting finds on Friday.
