Welcome to my Great Wisconsin Birdathon fundraising page! I'm excited to participate in this important event for the eighth consecutive year, during which the birdathon has raised more than $300,000 for the conservation of Wisconsin birds!

Though I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I was fortunate to have access to nature and really got into birds when I was in high school. By the time I reached Northland College in Ashland I was so immersed in birding and the outdoors it was clear I'd spend the rest of my life working with birds. Now 23 years later I've done nothing else academically or professionally. Why? Well, first and foremost I love birds. (News flash, eh?) But just as important, many birds need our help to overcome the challenges of today's environment. While I alone may not save them, I can do my part. We can all do our part. Collectively we can, we must, ensure future generations benefit from birds as we have -- economically, ecologically, and emotionally.

And that is precisely why I'm again leading the Lake Superior eBirders team in this year's Great Wisconsin Birdathon, a walkathon-style fundraiser for the protection of Wisconsin's birds. In late May we'll rise at 2am and try to find as many species as possible in a single day across Ashland & Bayfield counties. It'll be fun as always, but it will only be worthwhile if we can raise significant funds to help birds.

Please consider supporting me with a pledge or donation. No amount is too small as even small contributions add up! Your donation will support ten priority projects of the Bird Protection Fund, including:

  • Conservation of endangered Kirtland's Warblers and Whooping Cranes;
  • Research, education, and habitat protection in Costa Rica and Peru;
  • Monitoring of shorebirds, waterbirds, and waterfowl on Lake Michigan and in east-central Wisconsin;
  • Community engagement and habitat protection through Bird City Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Stopover Initiative;
  • The Wisconsin Bird Monitoring Program and Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas II.

We have done so much, but there is still so much more to do. Thank you for joining me in making a sustainable future for Wisconsin's birds!
